Victory Outreach

Victory Outreach is a International Christian Church ministry that was first started in 1967 by Pastor Sunny Argonzoni in East LA. The vision of the church is to take the "treasures out of darkness", helping people who are bound by strong holds to find Jesus once again. I had the privilege of being apart of the San Francisco Church Ministry when I was younger. Although, I don’t attend services no more I still keep in contact with many of the member's from there (I consider them a lot like family )and they welcome me with open arms. Sunday morning services are now held at the local YMCA in the Bayview District until they have a permanent building and youth service are held at the youth leaders house every Friday night. Every year they have world conference events where the entire communities around the world gather together for a huge service that last a whole week usually. What stuck out the most to me about this church was the activities they had and how they incorporated their sermons to daily activities. While being apart of this church I learned life changing experiences and valuable lessons. While being apart of this community I felt comfortable and i consider everyone there to be like family. When I used to think of church I used to think that it was boring and made up of a whole bunch if stories i stero-typed that people who attended were "weak" and needed someone to help them resolve their problems, I realized I was very wrong.

Reflection Of Module 1

Throughout the past weeks I have realized my strengths and weakness's, some came as no surprise and others were eye opening . My overall performance in each class was satisfying but I strongly feel I can do better and didn't reach my full potential. A few of my strengths I have noticed are being on time, maintaining passing grades, made sure assignments were turned in on time, and staying organized. Some of my weakness's include underestimating myself, prioritizing, code switching, participate and engage more in class discussions and poor study habits. For the next module I plan to put 100% effort in everything I encounter.

Daly City ---------> San Francisco .

Throughout my whole life I’ve always moved from city to city within the Bay Area. I consider myself to have grown up in Daly City though because I spent my high school and middle school years there. Growing up in Daly City was very boring. In middle school the only thing to do was go hang out at the mall, and the only thing to do in high school was spend time at local parks or people’s houses. Growing up in Daly City I soon realized the cops are always around, hovering looking for people that are up to no good. Since Daly City wasn’t very interesting usually me and my friends would go to top of the hill and catch the bus to “the City” San Francisco, usually the mission. Although we would usually do the same things in the City as we did in Daly City it was just more interesting to be out there, especially the huge diversity of people, the people weren’t so boring and the cops didn’t mess with us as much. I believe my neighborhood didn’t shape me necessarily but the neighborhood I grew up in did. The environment I grew up in made me the person I am today, only eighteen years old and very mature. I’ve had the advantage of learning from other people’s mistakes and seeing just how cold people really could be. In general I feel that whatever doesn’t kill you can only make you stronger, and what I mean by that is no matter what type of background you came from (the suburbs or rougher part of town) it is your decision to let it get the best of you and affect your life.

The Opportunity Divide Thoughts

After reading the article “the poverty business” I feel a variety of different emotions towards people with bad credit and the creditors. My first reaction towards the first story, reading about Roxanne made me feel sympathetic how not just car dealer ships but other companies take advantage, manipulate, and misinform customers who want to buy a product. Customers like Roxanne and relatives of mine have been victims in many types of situation by later realizing just exactly what they have got into, when it is already too late and the damage to their credit has already been done. I believe credit is an unnecessary thing that we shouldn’t have to use and deal with. I think it is unfair that we are being judged by a number and this effects our ability to buy a car or a house etc.,.
I also believe that Check Into Cash and Cash Advance Centers are a  rip off and not worth it for the high interest rates they charge. These companies take advantage of the need for cash in advance and exploit their customers. Someone from the passage stated “I don’t know whether I was more bothered by the ignorance of the customers or by the company taking advantage of the ignorance of the customers,” I strongly agree with this quote because it is the customers responsibility to be well informed of what they are getting to and contracts they are signing although, I am well aware that in most cases people fall victims to Cash Advance because they have no other choice. For the people who fall in debt because of their lack of not knowing exactly what they are getting into, I believe it is preventable and not the Company’s fault. The companies are wrong for doing these things but I mean today in this generation you have to hustle for your money and get it in every way possible.
